The Hairy Pussy – A National, International, Lesbian, Feminist, Grassroots Online And Paper Magazine (free)

Was available in: Dublin, Cork, Galway, Limerick, Donegal, Sligo, Northern Ireland, London, Scotland, Germany, France, Greece, New York, New Zealand, Australia, South Africa, Libya, and online.

I was co-owner, manager, writer, artist, editor and publisher of The Hairy Pussy. THP was born when I thought about doing a magazine for a women’s charity, when I thought, why not do the same project for myself and after that the name was born. My partner came up with the name and I loved it, because it stands for what we are trying to do regarding equalizing women’s place in all societies, starting with our local Irish one. ‘The Hairy Pussy’ is an undiplomatic term. It is so because it shouts that women can do what they please, and not conform to society’s rules, roles and restrictions. That a woman should be who she is, should shave or not, that is her choice and her choice alone.

The term also embraces our bodies, the historical dump of blame, dirt, guilt and shame. Our bodies are beautiful. Everything about them is beautiful. They are part of nature and an extension of her. ‘The Hairy Pussy’ is beautiful, some would even say positively magical. It is not an evil witch temptress, who initiated the doom of humankind. An evil-witch-temptress that should be objectified, imprisoned between child-birth, cooking and cleaning till death do us part. We want to shake this society, to rebuild a better one…
